Tonda Eckert exclusive: Southampton boss reveals he received police protection after threats during Spygate scandal

Southampton boss Tonda Eckert has revealed he received police protection amid threats during the Spygate scandal.

Saints were banished from the Championship play-off final in May when they admitted to spying on three clubs during the season after they were caught observing a Middlesbrough training session ahead of the first leg of their play-off semi-final.

The EFL charged Saints after it was later found they had also observed sessions involving Oxford and Ipswich.

Southampton will also start the upcoming season on minus-four points as part of the punishment.
